Beerakaya tokku podi koora / Ridged gourd's peel powder curry
Whenever I make beerakayi, I save the peel to either make this curry or a chutney out of it. This podi goes nice along with hot rice with a drop of ghee if you wish.
Ingredients:
Peel of 2 large beerakayas
1 small onion chopped
3 green chillies, chopped
1/2 tsp urad daal
1/2 tsp channa daal
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp jeera
5-6 curry leaves
3 dried red chillies, broken
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp chilli powder
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Method:
After peeling the beerakaya, roughly chop the peel and grind it using very less water. If you use more water, it will just take long time to cook.
In a pot, heat oil, add channa daal and urad daal. Let them brown before adding the mustard seeds and jeera. Let them splutter before adding curry leaves, broken red chilles, onion and green chillies. Saute and when onion turns translucent, add the ground peel. Add salt, turmeric and chilli powder. Saute well. Cook till all the water has evaporated and it becomes like powder. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve. Enjoy!!!
